INTRODUCTION
In Westfield International School we believe that students are creative, thoughtful, trustworthy and capable of making important decisions, accountable and responsible for their decisions and actions. We therefore do not make punitive measures a way of maintaining discipline but rather discussions and appeal to our right sense of judgment. However, there are offences which are unacceptable and improper and therefore merit certain sanctions.
CATEGORY A (Minor offences)
All category
‘A’ offences are to be dealt with my Teachers on duty, Class/Form Tutors, Heads
of Departments, Coordinators, Assistant Head of School, and the Head of School.
1. LATENESS TO SCHOOL AND
SCHOOL FUNCTIONS
We believe that punctuality is
the hallmark of every disciplined person. Students are therefore encouraged to
attend all lessons and school functions punctually and in the correct attire.
Students are also require to take along the correct equipment and books to all
lessons. They are required to listen attentively and follow instructions
carefully.
Penalty: Detention after school hours (45 minutes) to do
manual work such as
1. sweeping
2. weeding
3. scrubbing
4. watering of plants
2. TRUANCY, CLASS CUTTING,
TARDINESS
Pupils and students shall be
present at all school functions and comply with school attendance regulations.
Truancy or tardiness or class cutting include:
A. Absence from school or any
portion of the school day without any legal excuse. (A medical doctor’s excuse
may be required to verify prolonged absence)
B. Leaving school without
authorization
C. Unexcused
absence from class or any assigned activity
Penalty:
1.Detention to catch up with work
2. Students may be held during activities to do
grounds work
3. Internal suspension for not less than one week
4. Sign a bond of good behavior
5. Withdrawal
3. EATING AND CHEWING GUM
Chewing gum, eating or drinking
(except water) is not permitted in the classroom, library, and laboratories,
morning worship, morning assembly or during games/P.E without permission.
Penalty:
•
Sweeping for two days
•
Dusting of the windows for two days
•
Watering of flowers and the lawns for two days
• Emptying of dustbins for two
days
(Outside instruction period)
CONCLUSION:
The school is a WIS institution and as such any
policies or schedules mandated by WIS are binding on the pupils and students
who choose to attend its school. In all cases, parents should be notified of
the form of reward or sanction given to their ward/children. Students may be
required to sign a bond of good behavior after completion of penalty.
COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS OF PARENTS
We try as much as possible to
operate an open door policy. We are always ready to listen to you and to help
address your concerns. If you have a complaint, we shall be grateful if you
tell us about it as soon as possible. Your concerns will be solved promptly by
speaking with your ward’s class or form tutor. If you are not satisfied and
need to speak with the Head of school, you may have to book an appointment.
This can be done through a written note or by telephoning the school office.
